Visiting La Teste-de-Buch on holiday

With an area of 180 km2, La Teste-de-Buch is one of the largest towns in France. Situated in the Bay of Biscay, south of the Bay of Arcachon and close to the Dune du Pilat, between the forest and the ocean, La Teste enjoys a privileged location.
It has a pretty parish church, the church of Saint-Vincent, and some other beautiful buildings such as the house of Verthamon (Hôtel de Caupos) and the Lalanne house which now houses the library. La Teste is most famous for its beautiful sandy beaches, especially the beach of La Salie, a famous surfing spot on the Atlantic coast. Nature lovers will love it because it is surrounded by exceptional natural areas: Ile aux Oiseaux, Dune du Pilat, Lake Cazaux and Sanguinet, the national nature reserve of the Banc d’Arguin…
As in most of the communes of the Arcachon basin, oyster farming plays an important role in the local economy.
La Teste has the distinction of having three oyster ports. Although the port is especially busy in December, when the demand for oysters in the run-up to the festive season reaches a record high, it is possible to go and meet the 600 or so oyster farmers working in the basin all year round.

Tomorrow, after your breakfast in the open air, you can start the day with a walk in the forest. Hire your bike from the campsite and use the safe cycle paths along the Arcachon basin. Retrace your steps whenever you like and stop at lunchtime on a terrace on the Arcachon seafront to order a platter of seafood. Are you full? Hop on a boat and take a tour of the Ile aux Oiseaux! If you prefer thrills, treat yourself to a water ski, flyboard or parachute jump.
The next day, do your shopping at the market in La Teste to recover from your emotions. Think about your surfing lesson before getting back on your bike, heading for the Dune du Pilat, then the Etang de Cazaux for a family canoe trip.
